Selling Online

With a growing trend of purchasing being done online, it is a lucrative market for both businesses and consumers.

Online selling can incorporate a lot more than just buying and selling products and services. It also has the potential to be used to enhance supplier/customer communication, enable customers to track shipment/ delivery information, as well as access other account information. It essentially can act as a tool to add customer value.

However, to do online selling well, there are a number of aspects that should be given much attention, namely security and privacy issues. Many consumers and businesses alike have some concern of buying over the internet. Now that this is becoming a more accepted and normal practice, people are becoming more comfortable with it, but there are still a few steps you should take to ensure that there are no privacy or security issues.

1. Take consumers to a secure area to enter their details: using a padlock or a key symbol is a good way to demonstrate that it is a secure area.

2. Provide information on your selling history and reputation with referrals from previous buyers

3. You may like to look into using PayPal or credit card options with consumer protection

4. Give an easy print receipt option so that they can easily obtain a copy of their purchases

5. Include a terms and conditions paragraph, which defines how the customer’s details will be used and how you ensure their privacy and security of details

6. Provide comprehensive information on all fees and charges, as well as shipping and delivery details

7. Incorporating a live-chat option can also make customers feel more certain about their purchase decisions. Whilst this doesn’t address the security and privacy concerns they may have, this does address another area of concern – reliability

8. Make sure that your contact details are pertinent  on the secure page so that they can easily contact you with any queries and concerns
